SIGMUND FREUD

Five Lectures on Psychoanalysis

Five sessions
April and May 2026
Convened by Eugénie Austin

These introductory lectures offer a concise and user-friendly overture to the Freudian field of psychoanalysis. They were presented to students and lay-people at Clark University in the US in 1909, and cover the topics of hysteria, neurosis, trauma, repression, jokes, dreams, symptoms, sexuality and transference.

We read the lectures slowly and carefully – with commentary, context, and Lacanian development – over five consecutive weeks.
